Teeth Whitening Helps You Make Your Best First Impression

Teeth WhiteningDo you want a whiter smile before your wedding day or that big job interview?

You know that you couldn’t imagine walking down the aisle with a wedding dress that’s brighter than your smile. Or maybe you are vying for your dream job and you need to make an incredible first impression at your interview. Either way, it sounds like you might be on a time crunch when it comes to whitening your smile. Don’t worry; our Arlington, VA, cosmetic dentist, Dr. Bruce Hanley, has got you covered.

Who should consider professional teeth whitening?

If you have healthy natural teeth that have become dull and yellow then you could be the ideal candidate for teeth whitening. Professional teeth whitening is the most effective approach for removing stubborn dental stains caused by foods, drinks, smoking, or even the natural aging process. However, professional teeth whitening will not be able to brighten dental work such as fillings or crowns.

Those with tooth sensitivity might have heard that teeth whitening isn’t right for them because it can increase your sensitivity. While this can be true, if you experience tooth sensitivity it’s a good idea to talk to our Arlington cosmetic dentist during your consultation. We may recommend a desensitizing toothpaste to use for a few weeks before your whitening treatment. Plus, when you come in for professional whitening we can monitor your whitening experience to reduce sensitivity (something you wouldn’t be able to do with at-home whitening treatment).

What happens during professional teeth whitening?

If you want visibly whiter teeth in less than one hour then look no further than our chairside whitening system. This is the best approach if you want to get your smile several shades whiter in often just one session. When you come in for whitening, we will clean your teeth to remove any plaque and tartar buildup that could get in the way of even whitening.

From there, we will place a protective barrier over the gum tissue and then apply the whitening gel to the front of your teeth. The gel will remain on your teeth for up to 15 minutes, after which we will remove the whitening gel and apply a fresh new layer. We will remove and reapply the gel 2-3 times during your treatment to ensure that stubborn stains are gone. The whitening process only takes about 45 minutes.

It’s never too late to get that brilliant smile. If you want to find out more about professional in-office teeth whitening or even our at-home whitening options, it’s the perfect time to pick up the phone and call our Arlington, VA, dental office to find out how we can makeover your smile.
